The PUMPHRP17-12 is an amazing reversing pumpset. It connects the NavPilot series autopilot to a hydraulic steering system. Its reversible gerotor gear pump, with a two-piece gear in an eccentric ring, makes it super quiet, reliable, and precise. A hydraulic steering system has a hydraulic actuator and one or more helm pumps. When you turn the steering wheel to port, hydraulic oil goes into the port hydraulic line and then to the port side of the steering cylinder. The linear movement of the cylinder changes to rotary movement through the tiller arm, turning the rudder and steering the vessel. Turning the wheel to starboard has the opposite reaction. If you use multiple helm pumps, install a return/fill line to connect them. The PUMPHRP17-12 outputs 1.6 cu. in. of oil per second and needs 12VDC input.

Using the PUMPHRP17-12 is easy. First, connect it to the NavPilot series autopilot and the hydraulic steering system as described. When you turn the steering wheel, the pump will start working to move the rudder. Make sure to use 12VDC power supply. If you are using more than one helm pump, remember to install the return/fill line. For maintenance, check the pump regularly for any signs of wear or damage. Keep the hydraulic oil clean and at the right level. If you notice any strange noises or problems with the steering, stop using the pump and check it immediately.
